A Walk on the Wild Side
Named for the intense geothermal activity within its boundaries, the Hell’s Gate National Park is a remarkable quarter of the Great Rift Valley. Spectacular scenery including the towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam make it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa. Hell’s Gate is an ideal venue for a day trip from Nairobi where there is still wildlife to be spotted such as buffalo and antelopes. It is also a common sight and the park is also home to a variety of birds. There are no predators in Hells Gate National Park. Visitors can enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing and a natural spa.
7.30am: Pick up from your hotel after breakfast or at designated area and immediately begin the 90km drive from the city to Hell’s GateNational Park. The park is located between beautiful Lake Naivasha and the twin Longonot and Suswa Volcanoes, Hell’s Gate is one of Africa’s most visually stunning parks.
09.15am: Arrival at the Hell’s Gate National Park. Our guide will assist in hiring a good bike for the Hell’s Gate bike ride. The day tour includes bicycle rental and will trade your safari vehicle for a bike to begin your journey through the park. Don’t worry… A vehicle will drive behind to ensure you have got a place to rest if you get too tired. Your first stop will be the spectacular Fischer’s Tower, where the adventurous can choose to ascend the 45 meters tower. Equipment can be rented on the spot, and all climbs are guided by local professionals.
2.30pm: Enjoy your picnic lunch in the Hell’s Gate picnic site with view of the park and watch the animals walking around. From here get a long but scenic ride to the famous Hell’s Gate Gorge. This is where one can walk and climb a way through the distinctive terrain that helped inspire Disney’s famous movie The Lion King.
4.30pm: After a fun and tiring day of exploration, start your journey back to Nairobi. Arrive in Nairobi and be dropped off at a location of your choice within the city. This marks the end of your adventure at Hell’s Gate National Park. Karibu tena!
