The spectacular scenery of Hells Gate National Park & intense geothermal activity within its boundaries makes it a perfect adventure destination in Kenya. The park covers an area of around 69 sq. km and it very close to Nairobi City; approximately 90 km. In fact what makes this park so special includes its towering cliffs, water-gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam
It is also the only park in Kenya where visitors are allowed to either walk or cycle inside the park since there are no any dangerous predators. Other activities that can be experienced at this park include: mountain biking, rock climbing as well as relaxation at Ol Karia Geothermal Spa that’s endowed with three cascaded lagoons.
The first lagoon of this spa is a receiving pond for the hot brine with a temperature of more than 90oC that is gathered from various wells in the Olkaria Geothermal field.
The Second lagoon is an overflow from the first lagoon and offers temperatures of up to 50oC. Designed in an aesthetic manner, this lagoon has both shallow and deep ends.
The third lagoon which is the largest lagoon of the three has a temperature of about 35oC and can accommodate up to 400 guests. This lagoon offers visitors an experience of the warm/ hot water bathing. It also has an extended children pool section that is rarely one foot deep and small children as well as young one: about 5 years old can enjoy the warm bath, under the care of lifesavers as their parents relax their bodies in the third or second lagoons.
In conclusion this park is ideal for adventure and outdoor enthusiasts as well as the perfect venue for a day trip from Nairobi.
